Grape Clones

In Spain it seems every red wine grape if some sort of Tempranillo clone. For example Tinto Fino and Tinto de Toro to mention a couple of recent ones. Fed up with wondering ‘what is the difference?’ I’ve finally looked it up. Here is a very helpful and readable article from Vinepair on what is quite a complex horticultural topic.

From the wine tastings I’ve been to it seems that Spanish clones are largely designed to deal with the particular climate variations the vine will be planted in.
