So the other day I write up a tasting of an orange wine I tried in Slovenia. These wines are very common in this area and also in neighbouring Italy and it seems in Georgia.
My understanding is that these wines are made from green white wine grapes but in the manner of a red wine. With white wines you usually press the grapes to get the juice then ferment just the juice to get wine. With red wines you leave the juice in contact with the purple/black grape skins to get the red colour.
So basically an orange wine will have the flavours of a white wine but the body and structure of a red wine.
