Krapez is a bit of an unfortunate name for a winery. It doesn’t sound good in English. Which goes to show that you can never tell as this was my favourite red wine of the entire holiday. This is mainly because it reminded me of some of the Spanish red wines that I’m used to. My tastebuds felt like they had come home.
Made from 100% Merlot and matured for two years in the barrel, this wine is apparently best left to age for up to ten years. Well all I can say is that it was pretty good after four years.
A medium intensity purple colour with a heady scent of black fruit and that nice creaminess you get with some red wines.
A dry wine with good body, it is very smooth on the palate. Medium tannins and acidity, nicely balanced in comparison to some of the other Slovenian wines I had tried.
The flavour was of dark ripe berries, a bit spicy and woody. A really good red wine.
