Another regular wine tasting at vinopremier.com this time featuring the Tobelos Bodega which is based in Briñas, 2km from Haro. It is classified as Rioja Alta but is only one of two Rioja Alta Bodegas found North of the River Ebro. This is the coolest part of Rioja where the wind helps control the humidity to keep the grapes healthy. It produces grapes of higher acidity which allows the wine to age for longer. The limestone soil and higher altitude of 455m to 600m found in this area forces the grapes to struggle for growth which produces better grapes for wine.
The first wine of this tasting was their white wine made from 65% Viura, 25% White Garnacha and 10% Sauvignon Blanc. It is fermented in new French fine grain aged oak casks for 6 months.
A very pale lemon colour with a light to medium scent of bread, citrus and some white fruit.
A dry wine, good body for a white wine and a nice long finish. Nicely balanced acidity. Medium. Lovely smooth texture in the mouth.
The taste of yeast comes through, which I personally love plus sharp green apple and some citrus.
This is a good wine.
