The second wine of a Nebbiolo Wine Tasting held by the Club de Vinos Madrid at the DOC Enoteca Italiana Wine Bar. Another Nebbiolo wine from the Giovanni Rossi stable but this time from the Barolo region.
This is an aged red wine which has spent 2 years in new oak barrels then at least 2 years in bottle.
It has a much darker more intense garnet colour than the last one with a fairly pronounced scent of wood, dark fruit and acidity.
A dry, medium bodied wine with a decent finish. The tannins and acidity are definitely present but much more balanced. As a consequence this is a smoother wine.
Taste of plum with a bitter edge, which I was toLd is black liquorice
I enjoyed this wine and infinitely preferred it to the Langhe Nebbiolo but still felt it needed longer in the bottle and would have liked the fruit flavours to be be a bit more pronounced.
