This week we have been writing up wines from the Trentino region. Based in northern Italy on the border with Southern Tyrol in Austria, the Northern half of this region is mountainous and used to belong to Austria. The grapes grown and the wines made are similar to those found in Tyrol. Whereas in the southern half the wines made are more what you would expect from Italy.
Italian wine regions are far too numerous and confusing to my mind. True to form the Trentino region contains 9 DOCs and 4 IGPs and cultivates at least 17 varieties of grapes. For more information on each of the denominations or grape varieties click on the links provided in this article, Trentino Alto Adige, by Italianwinecentral.com.
