Yesterday I wrote up a wine tasting of a white wine using the Albarín grape variety. Now many people confuse this with Albariño as both are white wine grapes used in Spain, but they are apparently genetically distinct. However, the confusion is not surprising given that there is very little information out there on the Albarín variety, whereas there is loads on the Albariño.
The Albarín grape variety seems to be used in only a few parts of Spain and even here it was in danger of dying out without the intervention of a select group of intrepid wine makers. Shame really as I loved the Pardevalles Albarín wine that I tried.
