Our fourth wine at the Itsy Bitsy Bodegas tasting at Devour Madrid and my least favourite of the night. Mind you I was expecting that as it is a Monastrell red wine and I really don’t get on with that grape. It’s too heavy for me. Others really love this grape so I guess it’s down to individual taste.
This is from a lesser known DO of Yecla in the Northern part of Murcia. Only 13k bottles of this wine were produced in 2017.
It has a light purple colour with a medium scent of fruit of the forest berries and malt vinegar. The latter was a bit off putting to say the least.
A dry wine with strong tannins and acidity. I got my usual sour flavour with some red berries. Others in the group loved this wine and apparently tasted more dark fruit with a menthol finish.
