Yesterday we wrote up a tasting of a Palomino Fino/Reisling wine from Jerez (Tierra Blanca 2018). It is unusual to find a wine from this grape as the majority are used for Sherry.
When you read up on the grape you understand why. It has a reputation for being low on acidity and taste. A bit dull really. A non starter for general wine but ideal for sherry fortification.
You have to wonder why yesterday’s bodega bothered, given they already had a well reputed aged sherry vinegar. In fact their own website states that their colleagues thought they were mad.
Oh well here’s wine-searcher.com’s take on the Palomino Fino grape variety. Click on the image to open the article.
