Back in January this year, on one of my previous trips to the Mijas Costa, I tried a locally produced garage wine Malapipa and absolutely loved it. What was more exciting was the vines were grown very close to our apartment in the Mijas hills just above the Higueron Restaurant. Well I drove up those hills looking for Finca Maria Sanchez and Bodega Malvajio but couldn’t find them. Very frustrating as according to their website I need at least five people to organise a visit. I just wanted to see where they were.
This is a new bodega set up in 2006 but only started selling commercial wine in the last few years. Production is small and focused. These wines carry no denomination, in fact the bodega advertises them as garage wines. Whatever they are, they are delicious. On my latest trip I managed to try two more wines from this bodega and I’ve yet to find one I don’t like.
Their Chardonnay wine is a very golden yellow colour with a medium to pronounced scent. It has a very fruity scent (white fruit) with hints of Jazmine.
A dry wine with medium acidity, good body and a lingering finish. Tastes of melon and flowers with a nice green apple finish.
I loved this wine floral/fruit blends are one of my favourites. Easy to drink but had some depth to it. What’s not to like!
