The final wine at a tasting for costawomen.com at Madrid & Darracott lesser known wine regions tasting. This red wine is from one of my favourite regions and grape varieties: Bierzo and Mencía respectively.
From the Rodriguez Sanza cellar, this is one of their estate wines made from 100% Mencía and aged in 300l French oak barrels for 6 months.
It has a lovely ruby red colour and a medium intensity scent of red berries with a herby/mineral overtone.
A dry light bodied wines with lower tannins and acidity than many Spanish reds. It has a medium finish.
This has a nice fruity flavour of summer berries. You can taste the strawberry and raspberry. I got less of the herb notes in the flavour, but this was the last wine of the night so I was into gulping mode.
I enjoyed this young fruity wine. It’s my style of red.
