The final wine from the Bodegas Frontonio wine tasting at Madrid & Darracott. Another red wine from the the Frontonio collection this time. Made from 100% Carignan grape it has been aged for 14 months in wood barrels to reduce the high tannin, acidity and alcohol levels this grape produces.
It has an inky dark purple colour with a medium scent full of cherry and other forest berries plus good woody tones. This smells more complex than the last wine but still full of fruit.
A dry wine with strong tannins and acidity, medium body and a long finish. Despite the higher levels of acid and tannins, which I usually struggle with, I loved this wine. Whatever they did to balance this wine worked. This wine had the depth and finish of a good quality red, but was full on fruity flavour of ripe cherry and fresh forest berries. The wood also came through adding another layer of smoke and spice flavours to what was already a great wine.
