The final red wine from the Christmas Wine Tasting at the Lion and Lamb and surprisingly my favourite. Why a surprise? Because it’s a Shiraz and I usually associate these with spicy peppery reds, with which I have love/hate relationship, there is no in between.
But this particular Shiraz turned out to be the fruitiest wine of the night. The tasting notes described it as having ‘decadent rich berry flavours’, to which I’d wholeheartedly agree. Also dark chocolate/raw coco which I rarely get in a wine, despite so many reds claiming it’s there. However in this Shiraz it was obvious and I loved it.
An inky dark purple colour with enough tannins and acidity for interest but nicely balanced so they didn’t interfere with the lovely flavours but gave the wine good body and a lingering fruit finish.
Delicious! I went for another glass 😋
