The final wine at the Volcanic Experience winetasting at VinoPremier featuring wines from the Tajinaste Viñedos y Bodega in the Canary Islands.
This is a sweet white wine from the Paisaje de las Islas series which is the personal project of the winemaker Agustin Garcia to develop wines from local grape varieties across the Canary Islands.
Made from 100% Malvasia (check our post on this grape from the other day: Spanish Grape Names). It doesn’t say on the bottle but this grape is usually grown in Lanzarote.
An intense lemon colour with a medium plus scent that reminds me somewhat of sherry.
It is a surprisingly light and refreshing for a sweet wine. It had hints of the nutty caramel flavours you usually associate with sherry along with dates and sweet fruits. However none of the heaviness or strength of these fortified wines. The acidity balanced the fruit nicely.
A very drinkable wine which I enjoyed even though I’m not generally a sweet wine fan.
