The first wine at the Madrid & Darracott story telling tasting, which are great fun so if you haven’t been to one before then go.
Jumenta means flamingo after the lake where they congregate each year.
This red wine is a blend of Syrah, Merlot and Garnacha Tintorera, so named because the flesh is a pink/red colour. More importantly it is from a region I’ve not tried before, Almansa, which is in the South East of the Albacete province next to the Jumilla region. Here’s a fun fact: I really struggle with red wines from Jumilla, which are too heavy for me, but I absolutely loved this wine. Just goes to show you never can tell.
It has a deep, purple colour and a pungent fruity scent which delivers on tasting as this wine is bursting with black fruity flavour. A dry young wine that is light on the tannins and acidity. It is a fresh wine with little body but a nice spicy finish.
