The final wine from the Madrid & Darracott Cheese & Wine Tasting and one I believe they have included in this month’s online tasting box for those of you who participate.
This red wine is 100% Bobal from Utiel-Requena in Valencia. I’ve tried a number of Boba, wine whilst in Alicante and they have largely been young fruity red wines. This one, however is made from older vines and aged in French oak for at least 8 months. It’s a much more interesting wine.
First I love the bottle design. It looks almost Christmassy and makes me think of winter nights sat by a fire in the library. This would be an ideal wine for one of those nights.
It has a pale purple colour with a medium scent of spicy red fruit.
A dry wine, with some body but not too heavy, medium tannins/acidity and a bit of a finish. It has the usual red fruity flavour of a Bobal wine but over laced with spice. A very interesting flavour and one I enjoyed. A lovely smooth wine which delivered on interest and depth far more than a standard Bobal without losing any of its fruitiness or overwhelming my palate with too much tannin/acidity.
This wine is a definite buy for me.
