Pedro Ximenez Grape Variety

Below is an interesting article by on this grape variety most associated with Sherry. It’s not a grape I’ve paid much attention to as I don’t like fortified wines or sweet wines. However in the last year I’ve had two dry whites made exclusively from this grape and enjoyed both.

Apparently it is hard to make normal Wine from this variety as it lacks acidity. As someone who suffers periodically from acidic stomach, a low acid wine is not a bad thing.

One fascinating fact from the attached article is most of the Pedro Ximenez grapes are not grown in the Jerez region where Sherry is made but in the neighbouring region of Montilla-Moriles. Who knew!
