I found this lovely white wine in a restaurant at Malaga Port. They only had two bottles and my friend and I scoffed the lot.
It actually comes from the Ribera del Duero region but doesn’t meet the qualifications to be labelled under that denominación. Hence it is Vino de Tierra. Castilla León has a lot of great tierra wines in their region that are worth exploring.
It is made from 100% Albillo Mayor, which is a local grape variety of Ribera del Duero. Then it was left on its lees for 11 months in French oak barrels.
A golden yellow colour with a slightly hazy texture. It smells oaky with vanilla and honey scents.
This is a rich wine with good body and a lingering finish. A dry wine with well balanced acidity.
It tastes delicious. I love this type of wine. The oak and vanilla flavours come through along with sweet yellow apples.
