More traditionally associated with Austria and Hungary, where it is known as Blaufrankisch, this red wine grape is now being cultivated in the Ronda area of Malaga, Spain.
It definitely has a different flavour profile from the traditional Spanish reds. More mineral and peppery, less fruit. I’ll have to check out some Austrian versions to make a comparison. In the meantime here is some info on the grape variety from wine-searcher.com.
